Providing Evidence Of Co & Smoke Legislation Compliance

GasSafe Europe, the UK’s leading provider of carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke alarm testing products, has launched Triplicate Test Record Pads to help landlords evidence to local authority officials that their CO and smoke alarms have been tested and are in working order.

The product is set to help landlords evidence that a building’s smoke and CO alarms have been tested and are compliant with the new Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Regulations 2015.  The legislation requires private landlords to have working and regularly tested smoke and CO alarms in all rented properties.

Tests are required at the start of all new tenancies and during regular property inspections, with those not abiding by the regulations facing fines of up to £5,000.  The new legislation came in to force on 1st October 2015 and is expected to help prevent up to 26 deaths and 670 injuries a year.

For alarms that fail the test, GasSafe Europe has also produced tamper- proof stickers that notify residents if an alarm is found to be faulty to help ensure that they are not used and replaced.

John Stones, Managing Director of Gas Safe Europe, comments: “With the new legislation now in force, landlords are required to have tested and working smoke and CO alarms in all residential properties.  By providing new test pads and tamper-proof stickers, landlords are able to evidence their testing and compliance to environmental health officers and avoid a fine.”

To effectively test CO alarms and ensure they meet the new legislation, landlords are required to test the sensor and not rely on the so called ‘test button’ which just tests the battery, buzzer and electronic circuit.  This can only be done by injecting a specific and safe level of test gas over the alarm.

To help landlords and homeowners meet the new legislation, multi award winning, patented, Detectagas® has been specifically designed to check the battery and sensor in alarms in one test by injecting a specific and safe level of test gas into a specially designed transparent cover over the alarm.  Safe and easy to use the test kit is widely available and set to help landlords meet new legislative requirements.
